Clifton is lucky to have such close ties to the University of Bristol, a significant local employer and on which many local businesses depend.
Most people who have spoken to me think the relationship is good between residents and students, barring the occasional gripe, but the communities run largely on parallel tracks. I would like to work with the University, the Council and the student body to involve students in the life of the ward to the benefit of all. Residents and students could benefit from dialogue about what they expect from their shared community and public space.
The Council’s neighbourhood partnership, the forum for residents’ direct participation in local governance, would benefit from the energy of student involvement and would be ideal for the exchange of views.
