Bristol Lib Dems have put through a by-law that requires all licensed taxi drivers to drive around in “Bristol Blue” taxi cabs. What a great idea, what a great way of giving a great city like Bristol a very clear brand image to tourists, I absolutely salute a great initiative.
However, because they are forcing all taxi drivers to comply on a particular date many drivers who are self–employed will be stretched to fund this additional cost which could have been easily absorbed if they had allowed the drivers to go to Bristol Blue when they replaced their cars. It is this lack of business awareness which needs to be dealt with in the council.
The council should be there to create the environment that allows businesses to thrive and all policies should look at the effect on business and community before being put into action.
