Cllr Ken Maddock to be Police and Crime Commissioner candidate

Councillor Ken Maddock has been chosen as the Conservative candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner in Avon and Somerset. Ken was chosen from a shortlist of extremely capable and well-qualified individuals in a selection process that engaged hundreds of members from across the area.

Ken’s previous experience includes a successful career in industry, followed by public service as both the Leader of Mendip District Council and Somerset County Council.

Ken comments, “I am absolutely delighted to have been selected by hundreds of people from the whole Avon and Somerset area. It has been a challenging process and I am hugely grateful to those who have given me this opportunity. This is a vitally important job and will make a real positive difference to the lives of all of us living in Avon and Somerset.

“I regard this as a great opportunity to take the improvements made by the police in recent years in tackling crime and community safety to the next level, and to do so in a more transparent and accountable way. I believe I bring experience, support and a willingness to listen, which this will need. But most of all, I want to do this because I know what a big difference it can make to the everyday lives of so many people.

“Avon and Somerset covers 1.6million people and is one of the largest forces in the country. In the next five months I will be devoting my time to visiting as many communities and listening to as many people as possible about their views, concerns and priorities for improving policing locally.

“I will be campaigning in every one of the 16 constituencies that make up Avon and Somerset and we will be working hard to ensure that we win this election, so we can get on with the job of improving policing and reducing crime locally.”
